The shift ties back to stricter certification norms. And it’s happening fast.
New CCTV rules come into effect from April 1
Under the government’s STQC framework, Internet-connected CCTV devices now need mandatory clearance before sale. That approval, industry sources told Economic Times, is unlikely to be granted to firms like Hikvision, Dahua and TP-Link.
Devices using Chinese-origin chipsets may also fall short of compliance.
The result is straightforward. No certification means no legal sale in India.
Commenting on the development, Nikhil RajpalFounder of qubosaid:
“We welcome the government’s move to tighten the net around non-compliant, internet-connected CCTV systems. This isn’t just a policy shift; it is a critical step towards strengthening national & personal security while also delivering a strong vote of confidence in favor of Indian brands & manufacturing.”
Indian companies expand market share
This isn’t a sudden vacuum. The transition has been underway.
Chinese brands, which once held roughly a third of the market, have steadily lost ground. Domestic players have moved in, scaling manufacturing and tweaking supply chains to reduce dependency on Chinese components.
By early 2026, Indian companies will control a large chunk of the segment – approximately 80% according to Economic Times. Premium installations, however, still lean on global firms.
CCTV options buyers can consider now
For buyers, the shortlist has changed. Here are some compliant and widely available picks:
CPPlus
A dominant player right now, with a strong retail and service network. Its newer IP cameras and kits are STQC-aligned, and the company has pushed local manufacturing aggressively. Works well for homes and small businesses.
Matrix Comsec
Focused on enterprise-grade systems. Offers dome, bullet and PTZ cameras with clear compliance documentation. Often preferred for offices or government-linked establishments.
qubo
Positioned in the smart home category. Known for app-based controls and simple setup. Suitable for apartments and indoor monitoring.
Prama
Expanding manufacturing within India. Product range spans residential to commercial use, with ongoing shifts toward non-Chinese components.
Sparsh
Another local manufacturer is increasing output. Focus remains on compliance and domestic sourcing, with solutions for both home and institutional buyers.
What to check before purchasing a CCTV
Labels matter now. Look for STQC certification or ER compliance on the box or listing. A BIS registration number helps – so does a verifiable certificate.
