Tech giant Apple marked its 50th anniversary on 1 April, celebrating a remarkable journey from a small garage start-up to one of the world’s most influential companies. Its decades of innovation, growth, and long-term vision have helped shape modern technology and consumer experiences.
To commemorate the occasion, CEO Tim Cook shared a company-wide memo, invoking the philosophy of co-founder Steve Jobs. Quoting Jobs, Cook highlighted the belief that individuals have the power to reshape the world through creativity and innovation — a principle that has guided Apple since its founding in 1976.
“When you grow up, you tend to be told that the world is the way it is,” Jobs said. “But life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: everything around you that you call life was made by people who were no smarter than you. You can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”
His message paid tribute to Apple’s origins in a California garage in 1976 and thanked the millions of employees, developers and customers who have shaped the company into a global titan with over 2.5 billion active devices.
In his address, Cook reflected on the company’s evolution, noting how Apple grew from a single prototype computer into a global ecosystem with more than 2.5 billion active devices. He credited generations of employees with building products that enable people to communicate, create and connect in ways once considered unimaginable.
“Whether you joined this year or have been here for decades, I hope you take a moment to reflect on how much your work means. Thank you. Thank you for pushing yourselves further than you thought you could go. Thank you for believing in our mission and holding fast to our values. Thank you for dedicating yourselves to something far bigger than any one of us,” he added.
Cook concluded with a forward-looking note, “What excites me most is what comes next,” he wrote, adding that the opportunities ahead are “among the greatest we have ever seen”.
Animated homepage | As part of the celebrations, Apple introduced a special animated homepage. Visitors to Apple.com are greeted with a rainbow-style banner inspired by the arches at Apple Park. It then transitions to feature iconic devices such as the Macintosh, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro, presented in vibrant colors in a Picasso-inspired style.
Marking the milestone with the tagline “50 Years of Thinking Different”, the company underlined its enduring mission to create tools and experiences that enrich people’s lives. While acknowledging its past achievements, Apple said, “As we celebrate how far we’ve come, we’re inspired by where we’ll go — together.”
Meanwhile, Apple hosted a private concert by Paul McCartney at Apple Park for its staff. Employees also received a commemorative gift set featuring a “50 Years of Thinking Different” T-shirt, a limited-edition poster and an enamel pin.
