Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday (June 11) said Indian Railways will launch a new and improved IRCTC website by July 15, following complaints from students about difficulties faced while booking train tickets.

The announcement came during an interaction with students in Rajasthan, where several participants flagged issues with the current ticket-booking platform, including challenges related to CAPTCHA verification and the overall booking experience.

According to ANI, a student raised concerns about the inconvenience caused by the website’s CAPTCHA system during ticket reservations. Responding to the feedback, Vaishnaw asked railway officials whether a revamped platform could be rolled out within 30 days and subsequently announced that the new website would be launched by July 15.
While the Railways Ministry has not yet disclosed specific features of the upgraded portal, the move signals an effort to improve the digital ticket-booking experience for passengers. The IRCTC website serves as the primary online platform for railway ticket reservations and handles millions of user transactions.

The planned upgrade comes amid increasing demand for smoother and faster online booking services, particularly during periods of high traffic such as Tatkal bookings and festival travel seasons. Users have often reported issues ranging from website slowdowns to authentication-related hurdles during peak demand.

The minister’s announcement suggests that passenger feedback is playing a role in shaping improvements to railway digital services. Further details on the website’s features, interface changes and technical enhancements are expected closer to the launch date.

The announcement was made during Vaishnaw’s visit to Rajasthan, where he also unveiled several technology and infrastructure initiatives. These included the establishment of an Advanced Quantum Computing and Quantum Communications Lab at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, under a Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology project focused on quantum technologies.

Separately, the minister virtually inaugurated a 20 KW Akashvani FM transmitter in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, aimed at expanding radio coverage in border regions of Rajasthan.
