One of the key additions is the ability to create and register a WhatsApp account directly on an iPad. Until now, users needed to link the iPad app to an existing WhatsApp account on a smartphone.
With the new feature, users can set up a WhatsApp account from the iPad app itself without first pairing it with a phone.
Updated CarPlay and Android Auto experience
WhatsApp has also refreshed its interface for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The updated experience allows users to:
- Listen to and reply to messages hands-free
- Make WhatsApp calls
- View call history
- Access favorite contacts directly from the vehicle’s infotainment screen
The changes are designed to make it easier to use WhatsApp while driving through supported in-car systems.
PDF viewing and annotation
On WhatsApp Web and Desktop, users can now open PDF files directly within the app without downloading them first.
The update also adds basic editing tools, including highlighting and annotations. According to WhatsApp, these capabilities are powered by Adobe Acrobat.
Music sharing to Status
The messaging platform has also added support for sharing songs directly from Apple Music and Spotify to WhatsApp Status.
Users can share the music they are listening to with their contacts through Status updates without leaving the streaming apps.
Rollout underway
WhatsApp said the new features have started rolling out to users. Availability may vary depending on the platform, app version and region as the rollout progresses.
