The advisory highlighted that cybercriminals are using fake alerts resembling official Netflix communication to trick users into sharing sensitive information, as per a Moneycontrol report.
As part of a recent awareness campaign, authorities asked users to identify which of two Netflix payment alerts appeared legitimate, aiming to demonstrate how phishing messages can closely mimic real notifications and lead to financial loss.
The fraud usually starts with messages claiming a payment failure or warning that the account may be suspended, urging users to click on a link to resolve the issue. These links often redirect to fake websites created to collect sensitive details such as card information, login credentials and OTPs, which can later be misused.

Officials said such messages rely on urgency to push users into acting quickly. People are advised to look out for red flags like generic greetings, doubtful links and inconsistencies in the message format.
The advisory stresses that users should avoid clicking on unknown links and instead check any payment-related issues through official platforms. It also urges users to verify the sender before taking action and not to share personal or banking information unless the source is confirmed.
