Once tagged, Claude can read discussions, break down tasks and answer questions. The agent can also surface relevant updates from across an organization. It works under its own identity and can build context by remembering information shared in the channels where it participates.
“Claude Tag is an evolution of Claude Code, made more proactive and built to work with a full team,” Claude explained in an X post. With this launch, Claude Tag is designed to help teams collaborate more efficiently by integrating AI directly into workplace conversations.

“Claude works under its own identity, builds context by remembering relevant information from the channels it’s in, and can follow up on its own. Claude Tag is available on Team and Enterprise plans in beta. Claude Tag works in Slack today,” Claude posted on its website.
The existing Claude experience in Slack will transition to Claude Tag on August 3.
Features of Claude tag
Claude Tag brings AI assistance directly into Slack. This allows teams to work with Claude without leaving the workplace messaging platform. The feature is available through three main interfaces:
- Users can tag “@Claude” in any Slack channel and assign a task. Claude then works within the thread, allowing everyone in the channel to see its responses and progress. Team members can guide the conversation, add instructions or continue work from where Claude left off.
- Users can start a private conversation through direct messages with Claude for one-on-one interactions.
- In addition, an AI assistant panel can be opened from Slack’s interface, giving users access to Claude from anywhere within the app.
A key feature of Claude Tag is its collaborative nature. The same Claude instance is shared within a channel, allowing teams to work together with the AI. Claude can also act proactively by posting updates when tasks are completed or notifying users when discussions require attention.
“In direct messages and the assistant panel, Claude has the capabilities you’ve enabled in your own Claude account, like web search and your connected tools. Channel tagging works differently: Claude acts under your organization’s identity, using the tools and access an admin set up for that channel, and the work is billed to your organization rather than to you,” Claude website explained.
How to set up?
- After installing the Claude app, only a Primary Owner or Owner can set up Claude Tag for the organization.
- They provision Claude’s identity, connect company tools and repositories and configure access settings.
- They select which Slack channels Claude Tag can operate in and team members do not need individual setup once it is enabled.
In Organization settings under “Cloud in Slack,” Member Access can be set in three ways: open to anyone in the Slack workspace, open to any member of the Claude organization, or restricted to approved roles. The role-based option is available only on the Claude Enterprise plan, the website stated.
